Oh my! It has been a long time since my last post.
What can I say? Same old story: busy…busy…busy J
So…
Last month hubby and I (finally) competed in the Colorado Star Ball.
We worked so hard over the last 6 months practicing technique and showmanship.
Well, our efforts were rewarded! We had so much fun and we did much better then we had hoped.
We entered 3 different levels in 4 dances: rumba and the three smooth dances: waltz, tango, and foxtrot.
The first day we danced the rumba in all three levels (newcomer and beginning and intermediate bronze). The first dance was the hardest. We were so nervous stepping onto the floor. I felt much better actually dancing and after the dances I was so pumped with adrenaline. Hubby on the other hand… he did pretty well before and during the dance but after he was shaking like a leaf! All in all though it was so much fun!
We earned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each level respectively. Not bad for our first day.
On the second day we competed in newcomer in the smooth dances. I wasn’t as nervous, but hubby was way more nervous then the day before. In fact, he was shaking so bad he was vibrating! I felt so bad for him; I have never seen him that nervous before. Not even when we got married. I think it was because all of his family was there and he wanted to impress them so bad.
He didn’t need to be worried cause we kicked ass! We placed first in all dances in newcomer! J
In addition to the newcomer dances, we also danced in pre and intermediate bronze in the waltz because it’s our current fav/best dance. We placed 2nd in both of those dances. (Against some really tough competition according to our instructor.)
We were through the moon I tell ya! I haven’t received our pictures for the smooth dances yet so I have nothing to post. L
I have to give a shout-out to my sister-in-law Allie. She works for the Hyatt (which was where the comp was held). Being the awesome chick that she is, she pulled some strings for us. We had asked her to make sure that our room was adjoining with our friend’s room, but she did a lot more then that. When we checked in we were handed 2 room keys….the second key being for the SUITE that she had us upgraded too. It was so freaking awesome: we had bar, living, and dining areas. The best part of the entire comp was Friday night when we all hung out in the suite watching TV, eating, and drinking. Okay, the best part was placing so well, but the suite was a close second!
All in all it was the experience of a lifetime. We are so happy we did it and our anxiously awaiting next year. Well, maybe not all the practice/lesson time, but definitely the competition!
